Hello! Welcome to Health 101! Let's get right to the bottom line on what health really is. We know that health is (According to Webster): "physical and mental well-being, freedom from disease...normality of physical and mental functions, soundness...vitality." Of course health is also "balance" and "fulfillment". Health is all of these and more, but why do so few people enjoy the pleasures of optimum health? Perhaps you've noticed that many, many opinions abound and confusion reigns. That's the reality, but really that's quite odd and unnecessary! Take home construction for example. No intelligent, sane person would dream of building a house without first having a good plan and the necessary knowledge. The building of an excellent house requires, excellent plans, excellent building materials, excellent sources of energy, and excellent craftsmen. If we apply this model to the building of an excellent body and excellent health, we can absolutely have what we desire. I know this to be true because I have done it with myself and helped many others to begin the process of achieving this goal of optimum health. I was a "basket-case" and I now enjoy fantastic health and vitality. In fact I'm getting younger as each month and year passes. You can too! If you really want to! But that is the first "catch", the first "sticking point". It's also the first question that I ask my clients. You might be amazed by the large portion of our population who do not really want to be well, let alone really healthy and vital. This is true for at least two reasons: the first is "attention" and the other is lack of self-love. Many people learn as little children that a stomach-ache or a some-other-ache will quickly bring them the "attention" they crave, and then substitute for real love. Many people never grow up, and out of this self-defeating behavior. Consequently, many people go through their entire lives settling for: some level of poor health, the "attention" (substitute for love), and never really being truly fulfilled and happy. True love may never be fully defined in human language. One definition that I value is by Scott Peck in The Road Less Traveled, "the will to extend one's self for the purpose of nurturing one's own or another's spiritual growth." The same principle can be applied to one's total growth including the physical-biochemical. It is this lack of "will to extend one's self" that is critical. We can call it apathy, laziness, stupidity, or whatever "label". It makes no difference, the result of natural law is the same. "Whatever a man sows that will also he reap." (The Bible) It can also be said that if we do not sow, then we also do not reap. It's "wake-up" time. We must learn to love ourselves enough to do the right things. Ah, but what are the right things? That's where the opinions and
confusion enter. I tried a lot of things and spent painful amounts
of money for twenty years before I understood how to take care of this
body, and am still learning everyday. I learned to question everything,
believe nothing, try reasonable things, experience all things, and know
some things. It is only by tracking things down to their fundamental
origins or causes that we can solve life's problems. I learned not
to treat the "symptoms", but to correct the "causes".
Even the "causes" must be examined for clues to even more basic
and underlying "causes". - So much to say - so little
space, today. - Darrell Stoffels, Certified Nutritional Consultant, is a passionate student of health. Having experienced a D.O.A. in a 1970 car accident, he was upgraded to "coma" with a massive cerebral hemorrhage. He lost 37 pints of blood, underwent 36 hours of surgery, was hospitalized for 6 months and lost 75 pounds. Confined to a bed, doctors thought he would never walk again, however, he eventually "graduated" to a wheelchair. Stoffels feels that today he is alive, active and well by the grace of God... and good nutrition. He attributes much of his recovery from severe structural injuries to the application of enzyme and essential fatty-acid nutrition, bio-magnetic and oxygen therapies, as well as exercise physiology.
